Hawai'i

March 24 - 31, 2007

My 6th visit to the Hawaiian islands.

Honolulu
The state of Hawaii consists of eight main islands. The third largest is Oahu. Oahu is home to the state capital of Honolulu, the 11th largest metropolitan area in the United States.
Waikiki
Waikiki is a neighborhood within the city limits of Honolulu. It sits on the South Shore of the island of Oahu. It is the center of tourism and home to many of the island's high-rise hotels and luxury condominiums. It also the location of the world-famous Waikiki Beach.

Duke Kahanamoku Statue
Duke Kahanamoku (1890-1968) was an Olympic swimming champion who won six medals, including 3 gold, between 1912 and 1922. He is also famous for helping to introduce the sport of surfing to the mainland United States. A statue honoring him stands near Waikiki Beach, where he developed his surfing and swimming skills.
